Not only they’re the only mammal that lay eggs, platypuses have developed the ability to nurse their young without nipples.
All other mammal species in the world use milk generated in a mammary gland and expelled through one or more nipples to nurture their young. However, echidnas and platypuses “sweat” milk through specialised skin glands. The young puggles gulp it up after it collects on the surface of their abdomen, where you might anticipate finding nipples.
