The Creation Of Adam by Michaelangelo Buonarroti 1508-1512
The Creation of Adam is not like other Creation scenes that had been painted up until that time. God on the right and Adam on the left are the two main characters in this scene. God is depicted inside a nebulous, floating form composed of several figures and draperies. The drapery that whips out from below the angels supporting the shape reveals their wingless flight. God is perceived as an elderly, muscular man with long beard and grey hair who responds to the forward movement of flight. This is a long cry from the imperial representations of God that were typically produced in the West during late antiquity.
