Mona Lisa by Leonardo Da Vinci 1503-1519
Originally a portrait of this type, the Mona Lisa’s significance has changed with time, and it is now regarded as the most famous painting in the world and the icon of the Renaissance. The Mona Lisa most likely depicts a Florentine merchant’s wife. But for some reason, the portrait was never sent to its patron, and Leonardo kept it when he started working for French King Francis I.
