Often referred to as a “hippo,” the hippopotamus is the third, largest land animal in existence. According to PBS, female hippos weigh about 3,000 pounds, while males can weigh up to 9,920 pounds.
Despite spending a lot of time in rivers and lakes, hippos are unable to swim, breathe underwater, or float, according to National Geographic.
